Competition for contemporary music and media arts 2023

Supported by the “neue musikzeitung”, the “Christoph and Stephan Kaske Foundation” announces the JukeBoxx-NewMusic Award. The competition adresses composers and artists working in contemporary Music and media arts, thus giving them a chance to have their current works evaluated by an independent jury.

The winner awaits a price money of € 4000. In case of works created together by composer and video artist, the price money will be splitted in € 2.000 for each artist.

The submitted visualized music should have a duration not exceeding 10 minutes and should contain video productions with interrelated acoustic and visual layers. The jury asks for a production of a visual “Hörspiel” artistically combining contemporary music, electronic or experimental music with media/video arts or digital arts.

The works should be submitted as a video clip of high acoustic and visual quality and must have been composed after January 2021.

Application Deadline is August 31th 2023.

CONDITIONS FOR APPLICATION

Applications to the competition may be submitted exclusively by upload to our website jukeboxx-newmusic.net. The following information is requested from the applicant:

  • Every participant is allowed to submit only one single work.
  • Address (name, postal address, country, postal code, town and e-mail address)
  • Short biography indicating date of birth
  • A detailed description of the concept of the composition and the audiovisual components
  • A link to common platforms such as Vimeo or YouTube, where the work submitted can be viewed
  • Place of performance or recording (if applicable)
  • Names of artists involved
  • An assurance that all necessary rights for publishing the work are obtained by the participant
  • An Screenshot from the visual work (max. 800.000 Bytes, nur jpg, png oder jpeg)

All music and video rights remain with the composer/artist. All accepted submissions will be made accessible to the public on the website jukeboxx-newmusic.net.

Participants are permitted to present only a single work.

All decisions are final.

Deadline for application is August 31th, 2023 MEST.

The jury will meet in September 2023. The award ceremony will take place as part of a concert, the program of which is yet to be determined.

The jury consists of Konstantia Gourzi (composer, conductor), Minas Borboudakis (composer), Manuela Hartel (media and performance artist), Jörg Lohner (executive director of nmzMedia/Die Bildmischer Mediaproduction) and Andreas Kolb (chief editor of neue musikzeitung).
