Veronika Reutz Drobnic: Unicorn Sees

Short Description / Kurzbeschreibung

“Unicorn Sees” stands at the intersection of visual music, graphic notation, and electronic performance art. Conceived as a 3D score, the piece redefines how musicians interact with written music. Instead of relying on traditional notation, it embraces spatial, graphic, and animated representations, offering performers a visual topography to navigate rather than a linear roadmap.

This composition is as much a visual artwork as it is a musical performance, expanding the concept of notation into digital sculpture, a score you can perceive in time and space, not just on paper.Unicorn sees is an experimental 3D score composition, written for the e-trio Pony Says by Klara Mlakar and Veronika Reutz Drobnić. Inspired by the history of graphical notation and the possibilities of computer assisted notation, this piece is pushing the limits of notation and composition.

The score consists of three spaces, or universes, each one created for another way of interpretation.

The first one can be described as a universe of notation, where moving objects have different forms of mostly classical notation on them.

The second universe features an illusion of real life instruments that behave strangely.

The transition to the third universe features a sub-world, made out of one score.

And the third world features many videos, notations, animations and pictures both from real life and abstract.
