Stellan Veloce: What we do on the beach
Short Description / Kurzbeschreibung
“What we do on the beach” is a art movie by film maker Silvia Maggi and composer Stellan Veloce. It was filmed in Sardinia, on the Porto Pino beach, adjacent to the perimeter of the Capo Teulada military firing range.
In the film a mysterious group of people performs a solitary demonstration like a every day ritual, the music accompanies them like a pastoral lament, frozen in time. The work uses magic realism to describe a palpable contrast: majestic landscapes and the beauty of nature are clashing with policies of military occupation that take thousands of hectares from the community, involving more than 60 years of bombardment on the land and sea.
The MiniDV format, chosen for the work, manages to sully the postcard beauty of the area, restoring an imaginary resistance and an urgency for change.
