Nicolas Cristancho: Jump, you will find the ground

Short Description / Kurzbeschreibung

Equipped with two “maracones” (traditional Colombian Caribbean seed instruments), Nicolas Cristancho A.K.A Nico Yurgaki, explores the space through the way it reflects the sound produced.

“In the metaphor of time, of some ancestral peoples from the Americas, the past is on the horizon, as we move backward into the future.” He begins from the threshold between two rooms. The one in front of him is in darkness. The one behind him is bright; we can see the action from this vantage point.

The performance unfolds over time with a simple series of movements, with Nico slowly walking backward until a momentum generated by the climax of the sound produced by the maracas launches him towards the past, where he disappears into the darkness.

By creating this fragment, we began to explore the perception of time through a rhythmic conversation among sound, silence, and echo.
